Take on Leadership
We want students to be engaged in the campus community, and at Goucher, you can get involved in a variety of ways. Take a risk and try on some new roles that you may never have thought of before. Play a role in making your community a better one. Here's a list of various leadership positions on campus; investigate what might work for you and consider applying or look at the links on the right to explore specific programs and opportunities!
- Interested in working with incoming students? Apply to be an Ambassador and give tours to prospective students and their families on campus! Throw your hat in the ring and apply to be a member of Orientation Committee. Consider submitting an application to become a Connections Peer Facilitator, and help a small group of first-year students in their transition to college life.
- Looking for work? Student employment opportunities are a great way to get leadership experience. Search through the Career Development Office's job listings. Additionally, internships are a terrific way of building your leadership skills; consider applying for an experience revelant to your intended profession.
- Like giving back to others? Think about becoming a Community Assistant, and help your residents in multiple ways. Give back to the community by helping out in community service projects through the Community Service Office or through CAUSE, our community service student-run organization. Consider taking a service-learning course or a peace studies class, and you'll explore more about yourself, your community, and your world.
- Love technology? Perhaps you can find a job working for the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT).
- Are you passionate about social justice? Join one of Goucher's many multicultural student clubs and organizations. Participate in some of our peace studies or service learning courses which explore issues of power and privilege.
- Want to be a peer educator? Help the Student Health and Counseling Center and serve on their Student Health Advisory Committee. Excelling in the classroom, give back by serving as a Supplemental Instructor (SI) tutor or by working in the Writing Center.
- Are you a sports junkie? Joining an athletic team and getting in the game teaches you a lot of leadership. Consider trying out for one of the many varsity sports we have on campus. Not feeling to up par with the competitive athletes, try out any of the numerous club sports options available.
- Are you passionate about programming? The event programming staff are students who are paid to implement small-scale programs for the campus community. Want to get paid and help out with programs? Join the Gopher Hole staff and gain leadership skills as a student employee for OSE.
- Have an interest in integrating your faith and leadership? There are many options for students on campus who are interested in faith-based organizations. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life is available to help students through the process of chartering religious-based clubs and organizations on campus. Look at the clubs and organizations already formed on campus.
- Interested in student governance? Take an active role in the Student Government Association through an executive board position or as a legislator.
- Have an interest in running a club or organization? Become active in one of the 60+ clubs and organizations on campus as a member or an executive board member. Can't find an organization you want to join? Create your own!
- Just interested in learning more about leadership? Participate in one of our various programs, such as LEAP, Emerging Leaders Initiative, LEAD, Goucher Leadership Council, Senior Capstone Experience, or Leadership Summit.
