The now-quaint phrase "information explosion" no longer explains the complexity of the universe of information available to the researcher. Besides negotiating the many  formats in which information is presented (print materials, audio and video sources, digital databases and websites, and more),  you also have to work with different kinds of information: (monographs, scholarly and popular articles, quick facts, statistics, news, and more).
