CAUSE (Community Auxiliary for Service)

In 1990, a group of students created CAUSE (Community Auxiliary for Service) to channel the campus's growing interest in community service. The CAUSE office and mailbox are located in the student club office space in Pearlstone. Open meetings are held monthly, and in September CAUSE sponsors a "mini-fair" where students can meet team leaders and representatives of the service agencies.

The Community Auxiliary Service club, better known as CAUSE, is an umbrella organization on campus for many types of community service projects.  You can get involved two ways, as a CAUSE member or part of a CAUSE Team.

  • CAUSE Member: Come to our meetings, Sundays at 9 pm in Geen, to help organize campus wide events sponsored by CAUSE like Hunger and Homelessness week.

  • Member of a CAUSE Team: Participate in reoccurring projects such as Habitat for Humanity Saturday trips, Blood Drives, or Tutoring.

CAUSE sites

Habitat for Humanity – Sandtown-Winchester
Our Habitat team travels 3-4 times a semester to Sandtown-Winchester, a neighborhood in Northwest Baltimore City, on Saturdays to help families build their first homes and clean up their streets. We also offer a Spring Break part of the Collegiate Challenge offer by Habitat. We like to stick to our commitment, through rain or shine, so be prepared to get dirty and give your all. Team Leaders: Travis Jolly and Meg Dally

Red Cross Blood Drive
Goucher volunteers facilitate Red Cross blood drives on campus by organizing sign-up sheets and helping during the blood drive. Help save a life! There are a couple of drives every semester. You can sign up to help volunteer at the drives or sign up to give blood yourself.  Team Leader: Caleigh Jones

Timothy House
Timothy House is an affordable housing community for the elderly. Volunteers help with meals, visit with residents, and engage in recreational activities.  Team Leader: Melissa Brady

Other Service Programs
In addition to the efforts of CAUSE, various other student groups are involved in service. Other clubs that have organized service activities in recent years include Hillel, Red Hot Blue, Umoja, House Council, jHOLA!, Seekers, and EARTH.
