About the Exhibit

In Stratachrome, a new exhibit at Goucher College, Baltimore-based artist Kelly Walker draws from a mixture of her surroundings to create vibrant works layered with unusual materials.

For the exhibit, Walker takes components not commonly mixed and uses oils, acrylics, resins, lacquers, metal leaf, car paints, and plasters to build up textures, layers, and complexity.

"Drawing from a mixture of my surroundings, experiences, travels, and feelings, my work is more a reflection of my process of exploration rather than the achievement of an end result," said Walker.

Walker, who moved to Baltimore in 1994, is a mixed-media, self-taught artist and the owner of Baltimore Art Star, a decorative painting company that specializes in custom artwork, faux finishes, and hand-painted residential works.

She was People's Choice prize winner from 2010's Baker Artist Awards at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Her artwork has been featured at numerous venues in and around Baltimore, including Goucher College, James L. Pierce Framing Gallery, Patrick Sutton Home, and Silo Point. Her work is being exhibited at NV Salon Collective and the Ritz Carlton Residences.
