Exhibit Dates

The Clearing will be presented at Goucher College’s Rosenberg Gallery in the Kraushaar Auditorium from January 9, 2013 - March 24, 2013.

Gallery Hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday 
The Rosenberg Gallery is free and open to the public. The Rosenberg Gallery program is funded with the assistance of grants from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the NEA and the Baltimore County Commission on the Arts and Sciences.

Artist Reception

An artists' reception will be held Friday, March 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Rosenberg Art Gallery.

About the Exhibit

In his work, Jeanes explores the processes of corrosion, liquefaction, and stratification as incidental approaches to creation. Each of his works is developed improvisationally, without a finalized plan, and up to 25 layers of paint are individually applied and removed from each painting. Through this labor-intensive process of application and removal, he attempts to depict a turbulent atmosphere where shifting fragments and gestures are both illuminated and obscured.

Jeanes' newest cycle of works, The Clearing, is based on images and memories from a recent drive across Iceland, from Reykjavík to the majestic glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón. 

"Recently, I have come to abide by the notion that the visualization of complex thought and a kind of psychosomatic energy can be conveyed by the simplest means of visual expression possible, in this case, through the layering of colored pigment on canvas. With this philosophy in mind, my approach to art-making remains quixotically primitive and at times naïve, and it continues to create a space for ultimate potential in my work." -  Paul Jeanes
