Important Spring & Summer Updates for Graduate Students

Dear Graduate Students,

First, I hope that you and those close to you are staying well and staying home to protect yourself and others. I have some important information and reminders to share with you today; some are COVID-related and some are just reminders as we move forward into late spring and summer.

At a virtual town hall meeting for staff this past Thursday, President Devereaux announced that all Goucher programs will be online for summer. For those of us in the Welch Center, this pretty much means business as usual since many of our courses and programs have been online for years now, and everything has been online since Gov. Hogan’s stay-at-home order in March. We had hoped to offer a small selection of on-campus education courses in summer, but in light of President Devereaux’s announcement, we will move those courses to a fully online delivery. Residencies and APSI are already planned for online. If you were scheduled to attend class on campus this summer, your class will be taught entirely online through Canvas. There will be no change in content or faculty.

As we wrap up the spring term and move into the June 1 start for the summer session, please know that I, your faculty and advisors, and all staff in the Welch Center are here to support your continued success in your program, and to address any questions or concerns you have related to your courses. There have been a lot of rapid changes for everyone, but continuity and excellence of our students and faculty have remained consistent.

We’d also very much appreciate it if you would please remember the following:

  • Check your Goucher email daily for important updates—this is even more important when we are fully online.
  • Submit your final work on time, or reach out to your faculty member to discuss submission options if you think you will be delayed.
  • Submit by email to your faculty member no later than May 7 any request for a Pass/No Pass grading conversion for the final grade (does not apply to Education courses).
  • Discuss any incomplete grade request with your faculty member before the last day of class if you feel you will need that option.
  • Talk with your advisor before registering for summer or fall classes.
  • Register online for your summer courses now, or no later than the end of summer add/drop.

That’s it for now. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Dr. Sunshine, your program director, any of our Welch Center staff, or to me directly with questions or concerns.

Stay well.
