Goucher College Young Writers’ Camp

Join a one-week intensive creative writing workshop for high school students who love to write! Spend five days exploring fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction with award-winning writers and editors.

Programming

Campers at the Goucher Young Writers' Camp work with experienced author-instructors at the college's renowned Kratz Center for Creative Writing to:

  • Study multiple genres of creative writing in author-led workshops
  • Start thinking about personal essays for college applications
  • Participate in interactive writing activities and games
  • Receive feedback from peers and instructors
  • Attend in-person seminars with visiting authors
  • Explore Goucher's beautiful 287-acre campus
  • Learn about college life and the admissions process from college counselors and current Goucher students
  • Work with professional literary editors to create an anthology of camp writing at the end of the week

Location

The Goucher Young Writers' Camp is held on Goucher College’s campus in Baltimore, MD, just off the Dulaney Valley exit of I-695. Get directions.

Visiting Writers

Every year we bring award-winning authors and professional editors to campus to work with our campers. Past author-instructors and visiting artists include:

Fiction writers: Susan Muaddi Darraj, Khaliah Williams, Maud Casey, Danielle Evans, Don Lee, and Rion Amilcar Scott

Poets: Sylvia Jones, Arnisha Royston, celeste doaks, Leslie Harrison, and John Murillo

Creative nonfiction writers: Jeannie Vanasco, Clarence Harlan Orsi, Katie Moulton, and Eric Weiner

Cost

$600 early registration (by May 1, 2025)

$650 late registration (after May 1, 2025)

Tuition includes all activities and writing supplies, daily lunch at Goucher's Mary Fisher Dining Hall, a Goucher goody bag, a printed copy of the camp anthology, and a chance to win visiting authors’ books.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Participants who withdraw on or before June 1, 2025, are eligible to receive a full refund of the camp tuition minus the $50 nonrefundable administrative fee.

Participants who withdraw between June 2, 2025, and June 20, 2025, are eligible to receive a 50% refund of the camp tuition minus the $50 nonrefundable administrative fee.

No refund or credit will be issued for cancellations after June 20, 2025, for any reason, including illness, scheduling conflicts, personal circumstances, or other issue. No refund or credit will be issued for any missed day(s) of camp programming. Camp fees will not be prorated for partial attendance.

Third-party registration insurance is available at check-out to all campers who register through the Goucher College website. This coverage is optional, and the provider has no affiliation or financial relationship with Goucher College.
