Psychology Students Give Multiple Presentations at the 2017 Goucher Symposium
On April 26, a number of psychology majors attended and presented at the annual Goucher Symposium. In the research presentations category, Sam Kane-Gerard (’18), Scotty Lind (’18), and Sarah Lummis (’17) spoke about their work on whether academic resource centers promote empirically-supported learning strategies to undergraduates.

Jeremy Hardy (’17) presented his work, From Predation Theories to Love Stories: Narrating Relational Research. Sushma Chapagain (’18) and Alix Scherer (’17) presented on Mindfulness in the Classroom. Sabrina Jimenez (’17), along with co-presenter Fernando Parra Chong (’17), and gave a research presentation on latinx narratives and post-migration adaptations in the US.
In the internships and student employment category, Sarah Lummis (’17) and Elia Goffi (’18) presented on their J-Job in which they helped find and organize professional development materials for the Center for Psychology. Jeremy Hardy (’17) and Mara Bezerko presented on the Title IX Peer Educators program, and Anna Young (’18) spoke about her internship in a presentation titled Pediatric Oncology Through the Lens of Developmental Psychology.
Storytelling-themed projects and and co-curricular learning presentations were given by Ushua Kaul (’17) and Michaela Finley (’18) on learnings about grief, by Talya Stern (’17) and Emily Abramson (’17) on Peer Listening and Learning, and on Reflection Stories in Cognitive Psychology by students in Dr. Jennifer McCabe’s Cognitive Psychology course.
Finally, many psychology students gave poster presentations during the Symposium. Posters were given by research teams mentored by Dr. Ghirardelli (Anya Jones (’17), Anne Werkheiser (’18), Katherine Dunn (’17), Elia Goffi (’18), Soliana Goldrich (’17), and Kathryn Monthie (’18)); Dr. McCabe (Sarah Lummis (’17), Sarah Hochberg (’17), Talya Stern (’17), and Ashley Pearman (’17)); and Dr. Friedman-Wheeler (Anne Werkheiser (’18), Kyle Levy (’17), Randi Nehls (’17), Sushma Chapagain (’18), Michaela Finley (’18), and Alix Scherer (’17)). Danielle Hallacker (’17) and Rachel Crain (’17) presented a poster on research completed as part of the Seminar in Experimental Psychology.
