Goucher College Vice President of Student Affairs Aarika Camp, Ph.D., will be a SCU division director for the national association of student affairs administrators in higher education.
Goucher College Vice President of Student Affairs Aarika Camp, Ph.D., has been named NASPA Small Colleges and Universities (SCU) division director. NASPA is the national association of student affairs administrators in higher education. Camp currently serves as the Region 2 Representative on the SCU Advisory Board and will begin her position as director at the conclusion of the 2023 NASPA annual conference in April.
In an announcement to the NASPA Small Colleges and Universities Division, outgoing Division Director Kimberly Blea said, “I have the utmost confidence in Aarika and know without a doubt that she will be a great leader for our division and will represent us well on the NASPA Board of Directors.”
As the vice president for student affairs at Goucher, Camp provides leadership for the division of student affairs, which enriches and supports campus life through programs and services, including athletics; the Center for Race, Equity, and Identity; the chaplaincy; residential life; student conduct; student counseling; student health; and student engagement. The division of student affairs facilitates a supportive and inclusive campus environment for living and learning.
Additionally, Camp serves as the program director of Goucher's Master of Science in Higher Education Policy, Research & Administration Program. Prior to her role at Goucher College, Camp served as the program director and lead adjunct faculty member for the M.S. in college student affairs and as the associate dean of students at Nova Southeastern University.
Camp received her bachelor's degree in women's literature and political science from the University of Miami. Following that, she earned her master's degree from the University of Florida in college student counseling and personnel services. She earned her doctor of philosophy degree in higher education and higher education administration from Florida Atlantic University in 2017, with a focus on the decision making of senior student affairs officers in the retention of underrepresented students.
NASPA’s Small Colleges and Universities Division provides leadership in higher education to promote understanding of small college and university missions, challenges, and opportunities. The division ensures that NASPA's programmatic and policy directions appropriately respond to small institutions—defined as those enrolling less than 5,000 students—and their unique needs.
