Goucher College appoints new chief financial officer

Brian HutzleyGoucher College has selected Brian Hutzley as Goucher’s new chief financial officer (CFO) and senior vice president for finance and administration. Hutzley will oversee the financial, human resources, and administrative operations of the college and will provide strategic leadership direction in the areas of budget and planning, controller and financial services, risk management, human resources, and auxiliary revenue services.

“I am delighted to announce Brian’s appointment as our new CFO,” said Kent Devereaux, Goucher College President. “Brian is a results-oriented leader with decades of experience at both private, nonprofit liberal arts colleges and public institutions.”

Hutzley comes to Goucher from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. At Centre, he was CFO, vice president for finance, and treasurer, where he was responsible for strategic planning, finance and accounting, budget and endowment management, benefits, facilities, auxiliary services, enterprise risk management, and more. He initiated and led a strategic planning process with the aim of improving the student experience, net revenue, and overall operating efficiencies. He also worked with an internal team and the Board Investment Committee to increase the college’s endowment from $270 million to more than $400 million.

Prior to Centre, Hutzley was vice president for finance and administration, and treasurer at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York where he was responsible for key strategic initiatives including improving operational efficiencies and service excellence, talent management, strategic sourcing, and the capital master plan. 

Hutzley also served as vice chancellor and CFO for the State University of New York university system, based in Albany, New York, where he was responsible for a $12 billion annual budget and the overall administration and operations of the university system. In this role, he was responsible for strategic initiatives such as information technology transformation, resource allocation, budgeting, and strategic sourcing. Hutzley was also the president of the State University Business Officers Association, providing vision, insight, leadership, and policy support for the entire SUNY system. 

In addition to his experience in higher education, Hutzley also possesses nearly 20 years of experience in financial planning and analysis in the private sector, at MEAD/AT-A-GLANCE in Ohio and New York, and at NCR in Dayton, Ohio. He received his B.A. in accounting from Michigan State University and his M.B.A. from Syracuse University. 

Hutzley will start in his new role at Goucher on Monday, August 5, 2024.
