Goucher Equestrian Team Named Reserve National Champions
The Goucher College equestrian team was named the ANRC Reserve National Champion in the Novice Division on Sunday
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Goucher College equestrian team was named the ANRC Reserve National Champion in the Novice Division on Sunday, scoring 150.57 points during the multi-day event held at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
The Gophers earned their first-ever Reserve National Championship in the Novice Division at the American National Riding Commission (ANRC) National Equitation Championships held at the Ronald C. Waranch Equestrian Center, falling only 6.03 points behind the repeat National Champion, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Each team is measured through four phases – the written phase, the program ride phase, the hunter derby phase and the medal phase. As a team, Goucher placed second in the Hunter Derby Phase and the Medal Phase, scoring 48.15 and 48.30 points, respectively. The Gophers were ranked fourth in the Program Ride Phase with a score of 46.69 points, less than three points short of the top ranked SCAD.
Overall the Gophers improved on their 2016 score of 142.14 points, which earned them a seventh place finish at last year’s event. Significant progression during 2017 came in the hunter derby phase, where the Gophers increased their score by nearly eight points. Goucher also improved in the written and medal phases during the 2017 championships.
Goucher’s Top Performances:
Junior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md.) was the ninth place finisher in the High
Point Rider standings in the National Division, posting a score of 72.33 points.
First-year rider, Rena DiPaula (Westminster, Md.), finished third overall in the in
the High Point Rider standings for the Novice Division, scoring 75.04 points.
Senior Alison Radgowski (Northport, N.Y.) also grabbed eighth place in the High Point
Rider standings for the Novice Division.
Junior Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Calif.) was the third contributing member to the
Novice team that secured the Reserve Championship.

The Gophers take a week hiatus to prepare for the IHSA National Championships held in Lexington, Ky. From May 3-7. Goucher finished 10th overall during the 2016 IHSA National Championships.
