Goucher College names new vice president of campus operations

Goucher College is proud to announce that Erik L. Thompson has been appointed as the new vice president of campus operations. Thompson joins the College’s leadership team with more than 20 years of experience. He will oversee facilities and plant operations, campus planning, sustainability initiatives, events and conference services, the campus post office, and campus safety.

“I am pleased to have Erik taking on this critically important role,” said Goucher College President Kent Devereaux. “The college will greatly benefit from his years of experience in higher education, as well as his architectural, sustainability, and process management background. During these unprecedented times, I am confident Erik’s leadership will help the college successfully navigate new challenges while continuing planning for long-term institutional priorities.”

Since 2015, Thompson was the vice president of capital assets and real estate at the University of the District of Columbia. He served in various positions at the University before that beginning in 2009. From 1997 to 2008, he worked as a Senior Project Manager for the Washington, D.C.-based architectural and engineering firm Brailsford & Dunlavey, where he completed numerous projects for higher education clients.

Thompson credits his success at the University of the District of Columbia to “being able to build a team focused on a common goal,” and he believes “the global reach of Goucher College will change the world.”

Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Maryland at College Park as well as his LEED Green Associate designation from the US Green Building Council, among other certifications.

While at Brailsford & Dunlavey, he helped colleges throughout the country, prioritize the investments needed to streamline their operations and support institutional goals. At the University of the District of Columbia, he has been responsible for a diverse portfolio of services, including maintenance, plant services, landscaping, environmental services, construction, and sustainability.
