Stromberg, a Goucher graduate and former teacher, is a passionate advocate for the transformational power and value of education.
Lisa Stromberg, Goucher College Class of 1983, has been named chair of the Goucher College Board of Trustees. Stromberg was elected to Goucher’s board in 2016 and has served as chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee and the Presidential Inauguration Committee.
Stromberg, a former teacher, is a passionate advocate for the transformational power and value of education, and has devoted much of her time to volunteering in education-focused roles within the greater Baltimore community. Her commitment to helping more families access high-quality education is woven throughout her work. Stromberg also has been a generous supporter of Goucher’s Greater Goucher Fund. Along with her husband, Bill Stromberg, she established the Stromberg Family Scholarship Fund in 2019, which provides need-based financial aid to students who are actively pursuing an undergraduate degree at Goucher.
She also has been active on campus, attending many different activities in support of student programs, including athletic competitions and dance performances. She credits her Goucher education for helping her develop critical thinking skills and become a lifelong learner.
“Goucher made a huge impact on my life,” says Stromberg. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Board of Trustees, and to support and promote the mission of the college as chair of the board these next three years.”
Goucher is currently embarking on numerous forward-looking initiatives, including the launch of a recently completed Strategic Plan 2021-2025, which focuses on enhancing student success, expanding global education, emphasizing inclusivity, and ensuring a solid financial position. Earlier this month the college surpassed $70 million raised toward its $100 million [UNDAUNTED] comprehensive campaign goal. The college has also engaged the Boston-based planning firm Sasaki to begin a yearlong process to develop a comprehensive campus master plan.
“Like Goucher, Lisa’s commitment to providing students access to a rigorous liberal arts education is paramount, and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with her as board chair,” says Goucher College President Kent Devereaux. “Lisa has been active in Goucher alumni leadership for decades, and her background in education and extensive relationships with other civic leaders within the Baltimore community will be an incredible asset to the college.”
At Goucher, Stromberg previously served on the First Decade Committee, Reunion Committee, and on the Alumnae & Alumni of Goucher College Nominating Committee. In 2019, she co-chaired the college’s Presidential Search Committee which led to the appointment of President Devereaux as Goucher College’s 12th president. In the greater Baltimore community, Stromberg has served on the school boards of the School of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Mother Seton Academy. Together with her husband Bill, they have established the Bill and Lisa Stromberg Endowment for Tuition Assistance at the School of the Cathedral, as well as other scholarships at various local schools. They have also been actively involved with Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Loyola Blakefield, Catholic Charities of Maryland, and the United Way of Central Maryland.
Stromberg succeeds outgoing Goucher College Board of Trustees Chair Ruth Lenrow ’74. Stromberg’s term as chair began on July 1, 2021 and continues until 2024.
