MACS Instructor Selina Morales Named One of the 2017 Delaware Valley’s Most Influential Latinos
Impacto Latin Newspaper bestowed the honor for Morales’ dedicated service as director for the Philadelphia Folklore Project.
Selina Morales, a M.A. in Cultural Sustainability faculty member, was named one of the 2017 Delaware Valley’s Most Influential Latinos on Friday November 17, 2017. Impacto Latin Newspaper bestowed the honor for Morales’ dedicated service as director for the Philadelphia Folklore Project (PFP). Morales shapes the PFP’s mission and vision for strengthening diverse cultural communities within the City of Philadelphia and its surrounding areas.
Her most recent work toward that effort includes the programs she’s created with four Liberian artists who live in Philadelphia. Together, the programs and concerts they’ve produced have been live-streamed in Australia, Liberia, and across the United States, bringing awareness to an important culture and its customs.
Not only has Morales' work had global impact, but it also has a local one. While teaching cultural sustainability to our graduate students, she encourages them to listen to the needs of local communities and identify the assets and knowledge that exists within those communities in order to build strong partnerships.
