A Trip to Thailand
Want to be a better traveler? Ask M.A. in Cultural Sustainability (MACS) alumnus Sunny Fitzgerald ’13. Founder of the responsible tourism group FROLIQ, she recently applied for and received one of Goucher’s student and alumni travel stipends to attend a conference in Thailand on sustainable tourism.
Fitzgerald, who is also head of partnerships and development for Academic Experiences Abroad, came away from the training with an official certification in Sustainable Tourism, which she hopes will help advance her work developing study abroad opportunities.
Fitzgerald credits Goucher with giving her skills she uses in her job (or, more accurately, jobs) every day. “My work in cultural sustainability did not stop the day I graduated. I am always working to further our shared goals. [Goucher’s] investment in me will further my mission to design responsible travel programs that help create compassionate, global citizens with a respect for the people, cultures, and environments on this planet.”
She is currently preparing a travel program for her own rural hometown high school in upstate New York. Next year, a group will be going to Costa Rica, to the community where Fitzgerald conducted research for her MACS Capstone.
