M.A.H.P. Alumna, Megan Diehl, ’22, publishes new standard for accessibility in historic places in Alliance Review

M.A.H.P. ’22 graduate Megan Diehl has published an article in one of the nation’s major historic preservation publications, Alliance Review by the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions. Her article, "Reconsidering Accessibility in Historic Places", is available in Issue No. 4 (PDF) from 2023. Within, Megan proposes a new standard for retrofitting historic places to be accessible to all that is based on universal design and people-centered historic preservation, the latter of which Goucher College’s M.A. in Historic Preservation program curriculum excels in teaching. She based this article on the analysis and recommendations in her May 2022 master’s thesis and for which she received the 2022 Hiram McCullough Award in Historic Preservation, which is a cash award given to the author of the best thesis in the year.

Several of the Goucher M.A.H.P. program faculty serve in leadership at the National Alliace of Preservation Commissions: Paula Mohr is the current president, Mindy Gulden Crawford is the Treasurer, and Betsy Bradley is a board member.
