Goucher named a pilot location by College Board to teach Pre-AP Institute to teachers
across this country this summer.
Starting this summer, Goucher will be one of 30 locations to offer a Pre-AP Summer
Institute. The program builds off of the college's successful AP Summer Institute
and will help educators strengthen pre-AP coursework across the nation. Here is the

Every high school student deserves the opportunity to know how much they can grow—not
just in school and college, but in life. To support this premise, the College Board
is launching a new Pre-Advanced Placement program in school year 2020, that features 11 Pre-AP courses. In partnership with the College
Board and in support of this new program, Goucher College has been selected to host
Pre-AP Summer Institute (Pre-APSI), a four-day collaborative experience that empowers
educators to begin to prepare and plan for their Pre-AP course. Goucher College is
one of only 30 sites nationwide that have been chosen to offer this professional development
opportunity.
The new Pre-AP courses deliver challenging, high-quality instruction for 9th and 10th grade classes through focused course frameworks, engaging instructional resources,
and learning checkpoints that are backmapped from AP expectations and the SAT system
of assessments. The courses provide all students the opportunity to engage in grade-level
content with built-in support for learners across varying levels of ability. Pre-AP
is designed to meet every student where they are now.
During the Pre-APSI, teachers explore course materials and experience model lessons
from the student’s point of view. They also work with peers to begin planning and
building their own course materials, so they are ready on day one of instruction.
In summer 2020, the College Board will waive the $495 per teacher registration fee
for the Pre-AP Summer Institutes for new schools that join the Pre-AP Program (limits
apply).
The Goucher College Pre-AP Summer Institute will be held July 28-31, 2020 at Goucher
College in Towson, Maryland. Registration for the event opens February 3, 2020. Schools
offering the Official College Board Pre-AP Program will be able to begin to register at this time. Seats are first come, first served
and space is limited.
