Goucher community mourns the death of Rep. Elijah Cummings
Rep. Elijah Cummings was a distinguished advocate for Baltimore and Maryland, and the Goucher College community shares its deepest sympathies with his family and friends. In 2007, Goucher was proud to honor him and his service to our country with an honorary degree.
Cummings fought for justice, and he recognized the importance of education through the Goucher Prison Education Partnership (GPEP). He learned, firsthand, about the positive impact that education had on GPEP students when he visited with them.
Goucher College Board of Trustees Chair Ruth Shapiro Lenrow ’74 remembers that Cummings’ love of Baltimore was palpable. “Congressman Cummings was a powerful and positive force in the community, and his legacy will endure forever,” she said.
