Goucher College selects Sasaki to create new Campus Master Plan
Building the campus master plan will be a year-long process, inclusive of faculty, staff, students, and the larger Goucher community.
Goucher College has chosen the firm Sasaki to lead in the creation of Goucher’s new campus master plan. Sasaki was selected from a field of highly regarded firms from across the country. The campus master plan will incorporate many of the aspirations and initiatives included in Goucher’s new strategic plan.
“Completing the master plan will be a significant milestone for Goucher and lay out a vision for how the campus will continue to evolve between now and 2035, the 150th anniversary of the College,” said Goucher College President Kent Devereaux in a letter to the community. “Sasaki is arguably the preeminent campus planning firm in the nation today with a strong track record in campus master planning. The firm also has a historical connection to Goucher, and in many ways, this is a homecoming.”
In 1956, Goucher College hired Hideo Sasaki, a landscape architect from California, to update the college’s original 1938 campus master plan.
In 2021, building the campus master plan will be a year-long process, inclusive of faculty, staff, students, and the larger Goucher community. Throughout the year, the team from Sasaki, in partnership with campus operations and the facilities committee of the Board of Trustees, will engage the Goucher community in focus groups and public presentations to incorporate insight and feedback from Goucher stakeholders.
Sasaki’s approach to this project reflects the firm’s depth of experience in the field of campus planning, including expertise in student life, data and design, sustainability, transportation, and landscape design. Sasaki’s work will reflect Goucher’s unique brand and mission, leverage the landscape, integrate sustainability and accessibility, create inclusive environments, and offer data-informed solutions.
Erik Thompson, Goucher’s vice president of campus operations, will oversee the partnership.
