A Letter to Parents About Accessibility
Dear Goucher Parents and Friends,
We are in the throes of summer, and I hope your student is relaxing and beginning to think about the next academic year here at Goucher. The Office of Accessibility would like to share important information for students who have requested accommodations and/or previously had them.
Students who have had accommodations previously will need to complete a Semester Request on the Accommodate website. Semester Requests need to be completed each semester while your student matriculates here at Goucher. Students who need to request accommodations can also use this website to create a new request for accommodation disability services.
Students requesting accommodations will need documentation. The documentation must come from a licensed medical and physical disabilities provider and/or mental health/ADHD treating provider.
Additional documentation can also be sent via Accommodate website. The documents can include IEPs/504 from high school or a completed assessment by a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist.
If the Accommodate site is not available, please send documents to access@goucher.edu.
Students who have a medical need for a specific style of room (housing) must also complete their request via the Accommodate platform. The student will need documentation from a licensed provider and the request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Housing will make the final assignment. Each academic year students must request housing accommodations. The requests are due February of each year.
Students who have a certified service animal will need to report to the Office of Accessibility for documentation purposes. Students who request an emotional support animal (ESA) will need to follow the directions in the Animal Policy page (subject to change for Fall 2023). Housing will also need to be informed once the student’s request has been reviewed and approved. This procedure must be completed prior to arrival on campus.
Accommodations are customized by the Office of Accessibility for optimal student success.
If you have additional questions or concerns about the process, documentation, or how to support your students, you can reach the Office of Accessibility at access@goucher.edu.
All the Best,
Nancy Williams-Nettles, she/her
Director of Office of Accessibility
