A Letter From President Devereaux

Dear Goucher College parent,

On behalf of Goucher College, I want to express our gratitude for your support and encouragement of your student during their time at Goucher. As the academic year comes to a close, we look forward to a welcome summer break for our first-year, sophomore, and junior students and the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our graduates at this year’s Commencement ceremony.

This year’s keynote speaker for the Class of 2023 Commencement ceremony is Anna Deavere Smith, a talented playwright, actor, educator, and Baltimore native. Smith has received numerous honors and awards for her work, including the prestigious MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellowship, and her unique brand of theater explores issues of community, character, and diversity in America. We are thrilled to have her share her insights and wisdom with our graduating class.

In addition to Smith’s keynote address, we will be awarding an honorary degree to Adrienne Arsht, a business leader and impact philanthropist who has made notable contributions to cultural and nonprofit institutions nationally. Arsht has also been instrumental in establishing the Roxana Cannon Arsht ’48 Center for Ethics & Leadership at Goucher College, in honor of her mother, a Goucher alumna.

We are excited about the many new developments we have planned for next year, including the introduction of new undergraduate majors in digital arts and public health, a new graduate program in the rapidly growing field of environmental sustainability, and new and expanded offerings in our signature study abroad program.

Thank you, once again, for supporting your student and their education at Goucher College. For those of you whose student will be graduating this year, my congratulations on achieving this important milestone. I look forward to seeing you at Commencement. And for those of you who are parents of first-year, sophomore, or junior students, I look forward to welcoming you and your student back to campus this fall.

All my best,

Kent

Kent Devereaux
