Frequently Asked Questions
Master of Arts in Digital Communication
Why study digital communication?
Most employers are seeking skilled communicators, but having an advanced degree not
only in communication but in how communication strategy functions in the digital realm
will increase your prospects for employment and give you specialized knowledge of
how to create and manage communication campaigns that rely on strategic theory and
digital production skills.
How do I know this program is right for me?
This program may be right for you if:
- You are a working professional and want to keep working full-time from where you are.
- You need a graduate degree to advance your career in digital communication.
- You want to develop your strategic communication skills to apply them in professional communication practice.
- You want to develop your digital communication production skills to apply them in professional practice.
- You want to learn from experts in the field.
- You want to share your experience with, and learn from, classmates who are also working professionals.
- You want the flexibility of earning a graduate degree both in-person and online, with options that will allow you to work at the pace that works for you in the format that meets your life and professional needs.
- You’ve never taken the GRE and/or don’t want to take it.
How does this program differ from other Masters in Digital Communication?
Most other programs both regionally and nationally are online, without the flexibility
of a hybrid format. Many of these programs have a focus on strategic communication
(which we also have at Goucher), but do not have the option of a concentration in
digital production. Goucher has both the academic study of strategy and branding and
the digital production courses that would allow students to create, edit, and manage
digital media.
How long will it take to get my degree?
You can take courses at your own pace. Most students will finish the degree in two
years or less, taking 2 to 3 courses per semester. But you have up to five years to
complete the degree.
Do I need to take the GRE to apply?
No, we do not require the GRE. If you have taken the GRE and want to include your
scores in your application, you are welcome to do so.
How large are the classes?
Classes may have up to 12 students, but most classes have 5 to 7. The small size of
the courses allows faculty members to give each student the close personal attention
that the Goucher program offers.
How much does the program cost? Is there any financial aid?
Please, see our Tuition & Financial Aid page. Goucher M.A.D.C. students are eligible to apply for federal student loans,
outside grants, and scholarships.
