Professional Writing, International Relations Majors
"I wanted to go to a college where the professors would know me by name, I could get to know everyone personally, and not be just “another student.” "
Where are you from
Baltimore, Maryland
Where did you transfer from?
Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC)
What led you to your decision to transfer to Goucher?
I wanted to go to a college where the professors would know me by name, I could get
to know everyone personally, and not be just “another student.” From talking with
current Goucher students, especially transfer students, I found out quickly that Goucher
would be a welcoming community that would allow me to be who I am.
What drew you to your major?
After working at my school newspaper my senior year of high school, I found out immediately
that Journalism was my passion. After taking Journalism and International Politics
courses at community college, I found that the Professional Writing and International
Relations majors were a perfect fit for me.
What would you like to do after graduating?
I would love to go to graduate school either somewhere in the United States or in
another country. If I decide to hold off on graduate school, I would want to work
for a newspaper or news station to gain more editorial and reporting experience.
What are your other interests and passions?
When I’m not in classes, I am interested in learning more about my religion. After
becoming a Muslim last year, I spend time reading and researching more about Islam,
getting involved in Muslim Circle at Goucher, and I volunteer at my local mosque.
I also enjoy doing yoga, baking, and recently began playing tennis.
What do you consider to be the important aspects of the Goucher experience?
One tool is your First Year Mentor. My first year mentor made it easy for me to find
resources that would help me succeed. Also, she was someone I could always go to for
advice or just to chat. Secondly, getting involved on campus can help create lifelong
friends and get outside your comfort zone.
