In 1897, a student at Mount Holyoke College left campus and did not return. The student's disappearance was reported in newspapers from New York to Boston, inspiring theories of suicide, abduction, elopement, and accidental drowning.
Gail Husch, Goucher Professor of Art History, read from her work-in-progress, a fictionalized account of the missing young woman's story, and answered questions about her research.

Joan Klingel Ray, President of the Jane Austen Society of North America and Professor of English at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, gave a talk designed to explore Austen’s enduring appeal. Illustrated with almost 40 images, Ray’s lecture, like Austen’s work, spoke to various audience levels, from the Austen novice to the Austen aficionado.
