American Civil War Century Ballroom Dances
Dancers dressed in beautiful period costumes perform spirited quadrilles, waltzes,
polkas, country dances, and Gallopades that Americans danced in Nineteenth Century
America. Complete with proper deportment, etiquette and conversation of nineteenth
century ladies and gentlemen, the ballroom dancers flirt through the silent language
of the fan, the graceful quadrille, the scandalous waltz and polka, the parlor games,
and lancers providing all ages opportunities for romance.
The dances are introduced in first-person narration in both the concert program and/or
the lecture-demonstration program with audience participation. Both concert and lecture-demonstration
programs may be performed with The Splendid Shilling Consort or taped music.
